Statesman: Impeachment vote splits Central Texans on party lines

Thursday’s U.S. House vote formalizing an impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump divided Central Texas lawmakers along party lines, with all six Republicans voting in opposition and the region’s sole Democrat, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Austin, supporting the resolution.

Doggett dismissed Republican complaints about the impeachment process.

“Our vote approves a fair, open process for the public to hear further evidence of the abuse of power to which President Trump has already confessed,” Doggett said. “Trump is breaching the public trust, obstructing justice and using his office to advance his personal interest by extorting a vulnerable foreign government.”
