Democratic U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett represents communities in San Antonio and Austin. In 1979, Doggett and other state senators left the state to stop an election bill. Doggett said he applauds state Democrats for trying to do the same.
“Our courageous colleagues in the Texas legislature chose not to be accomplices by sitting at their desks and being steamrolled in Austin,” Doggett wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “It took courage to do what they’re doing. To risk arrest for what they know is right.”
