Austin City Council Member Jimmy Flannigan and newly re-elected House Representative Lloyd Doggett were two elected officials that spoke at the rally.
Rep. Doggett said to the crowd he had talked with certain members of Congress on Thursday and a portion of them will demand preservation of the special counsel’s records. Doggett also called for immediate hearings on Session’s departure, and he wants to ensure the special counsel won’t be removed for any “unjust case,” saying he’d introduce a transparency act to hold the Trump administration accountable.
“We haven’t had any oversight for two years, we’ve only had overlook,” said Doggett. “If there is anything the president is willing to join with us on like rebuilding our infrastructure or controlling soaring prescription drug prices we’ll try and work with him, but he’s not above the law even though he continually acts like it.”
