U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, a Democrat who represents parts of Travis County, sent a representative from his office and issued a statement that called the new policy “horrifying.”
“This policy change will likely mean deportation and a death sentence for far too many of these separated women and even children, who have fled domestic and gang violence to lawfully seek asylum on American soil,” Doggett said in the statement. “The Trump administration is violating human rights.”
